Don't leave your business in the lurch - Why choosing the right broadband is essential for every business
Choosing the right internet connection is vastly important for a today's businesses, with there being so much choice and lack of knowledge it is important to understand what your business requires rather than cheap internet. We discuss why it is essential to have the correct broadband for your business.
Earlier this year, Britain's telecoms regulator Ofcom criticised BT and demanded that better broadband services should be in place for businesses. Ofcom insisted that BT must install high speed business lines at a faster rate and also significantly reduce the prices it charges rivals for use of these lines. Ofcoms Connected Nations report was released in December 2015 and stated that only 68% of small business properties had access to superfast broadband. There have also been sever damming business reports that suggest slow broadband speeds are halting growth of SME's in the UK.
Services that are used a lot in many businesses include cloud computing, email, VoIP and VPNs, can become useless due to insufficient internet speed. Not having the correct internet also hits sales hard. For e-commerce sites in particular, if a page is slow to load it could result in a loss of a sale. A slight delay of only a few microseconds can cause significant loss of turnover. Tests at Amazon revealed similar results: every 100 ms increase in load time of Amazon.com decreased sales by 1 per cent (Kohavi and Longbotham 2007). Google discovered that a change in a 10- result page loading in 0.4 seconds to a 30-result page loading in 0.9 seconds decreased traffic and ad revenues by 20 per cent (Linden 2006).
Other benefits of using a static IP include the ability to use advanced internet services, which in turn allows you to build websites, run servers and create email accounts where they are capable of sending and receiving emails from your domain. Broadband is the one thing that business cannot afford to cut corners on and this tool is vital for long-term growth and sustainability.
